The Recreation Division is composed of Community Centers, Recreational Programs and Aquatics. We run two centers Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the school year, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the summer. Brookglen Recreation Center is located at 3324 Somerton and Charles Walker Center is at 322 North 4th Street. Our Center Coordinator supervises overall operations and programs at the centers, and a recreation specialist works at each center. Our main focus is to provide after-school programming with a variety of activities during the school year, as well as programming and field trips in the summer.
We offer a variety of recreational activities such as: track team, basketball clinic, in-line hockey camp and leagues, dance lessons, field trips and much more. Our special events for the year include: two youth fishing tournaments, an Easter Egg hunt, Wave Pool movies, Teen Night at the Wave Pool, a Halloween Carnival, Christmas on Main Street, North Pole Calling and Black History Month activities.
We have the most extensive aquatic program in the Houston area. No other city has the variety or quality of aquatic facilities that the City of La Porte has. The Aquatics Division operates four swimming pools and a Wave Pool. The Wave Pool is located at 600 Little Cedar Bayou Drive, Northwest Pool at 10210 North Avenue P Street, Fairmont Pool at 10216 Hillridge and Brookglen Pool at 3324 Somerton and our newest pool San Jacinto Pool at 618 San Jacinto.
