Located minutes east of downtown Houston, La Porte offers a recreational waterfront living environment, while providing strong economic clusters in both the specialty chemical and maritime industries.
Location: The key to La Porte’s success is location. The city is bounded on the north side by the Houston Ship Channel and the Barbours Cut Terminal, on the east by Galveston Bay, on the south by the Bayport Terminal, and is flanked on its north and west sides by various petrochemical plants located in La Porte's two Industrial Districts. Amenities: The City of La Porte operates a 350,000 gallon Wave Pool, two bayside parks with fishing piers, a rodeo/open riding arena, and four neighborhood swimming pools, all for the benefit of the citizens of La Porte. In addition, the City has 20 parks and recreation facilities, with baseball, softball, soccer, football, bicycle/pedestrian/exercise/nature trails, a senior center, a special populations center, and other amenities for the enjoyment of our citizens and visitors. The acclaimed 18-hole golf course offers both a clubhouse and open-air pavilion, and is a great golf experience at an affordable price.

Office of Economic Development: The Economic Development Division was created in April 2007 to address the needs of the business community through a strategic and comprehensive plan for rational, sustainable and measured growth. The Division is funded through the assessment of an economic development 1/2 cent sales tax adopted in 1999.
