The La Porte Fire Department is responsible for providing the community with all aspects of Fire Protection Services, as well as Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The Fire Department responds to as many as 1054 alarms annually with the EMS Division responding to an estimated 2800 calls annually. The La Porte Fire Department also provides contract fire protection services for the cities of Morgan's Point and Shoreacres.
The City of La Porte is located at the entrance of the "Port of Houston". The city is proud to be one of the few municipalities that are a member of C.I.M.A. (Channel Industries Mutual Aid). C.I.M.A. has a membership of 115 companies.
We serve a population of approximately 33,000 citizens, occupying an area of 18.33 square miles. It also provides fire and EMS service to an exterritorial jurisdiction area of 15 square miles. Areas range from light residential with stables and pastures, to dense residential areas with subdivisions and apartments to light industrial manufacturing, to heavy industrial/chemical complexes. The San Jacinto Monument and Texas Battleship are also located in the exterritorial jurisdiction of the City of La Porte.
The La Porte Fire Department is a combination of paid and volunteer fire fighters who operate out of 4 stations. Current staffing levels are 14 career fire fighters and support staff, 17 EMS personnel and support staff, and approximately 90 volunteer fire fighters. The EMS are paid personnel who function out of a central EMS station.
