Assistant Chief Steve Deardorff

Assistant Chief Steve Deardorff joined the La Porte Police Department in 1982. He initially served as a patrol officer until April of 1986, when he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Following his promotion, he was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division as an Investigator and later returned to Patrol division as a Shift Supervisor. In January of 1997, he was promoted to Lieutenant and remained in the Patrol Division as a Watch Commander. In 2003, he returned to the Criminal Investigations Division, where he was assigned as the Division Commander. In August of 2008, he was promoted to Assistant Chief and is currently assigned to oversee all Patrol operations.

Assistant Chief Deardorff has earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement and Police Science, as well as a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Management from Sam Houston State University. He is certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education as a Master Peace Officer and, in addition to his command duties, Assistant Chief Deardorff serves as the departments range master, a firearms instructor and SWAT Commander. He enjoys hunting, playing golf, and handgun shooting sports in his spare time.

Assistant Chief Deardorff is married and has 5 children.
