Lieutenant McBeath began her career with the La Porte Police Department in 1987. She was initially assigned to the Patrol Division, where she also held the role of both Field Training Officer and Intoxilyzer Operator. In 1996, she was appointed to the rank of Detective and entered the Criminal Investigations Division. While assigned to the division, she performed various investigate duties until her promotion to Sergeant in 1999.
Upon promoting, she was assigned to the Patrol Division where she began her supervisory calling as the Evening Shift Patrol Sergeant. In 2000, she returned to the Criminal Investigations Division, where she remained the division Sergeant for nearly eight years. In 2008, she was promoted to Lieutenant where she initially served as the Watch Commander for Night Shift Patrol until being appointed in 2009 to her present assignment as Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division.
Lt. McBeath recently received an employee of the quarter award for her work in solving a sixteen year old cold case double homicide featured on the television show “Cold Justice”. She was also a recipient of the 2009 Manager of the year award for the City of La Porte and has been awarded numerous Chief’s Commendations.
Lieutenant McBeath is married to a retired Deer Park PD Lieutenant. Tammy and her husband Bill enjoy hunting and spending time with their grandchildren.
