Councilperson District 3 Bill Bentley

Jan. 21, 2020 - Congratulations to Mayor Pro Tem Bentley, who received a Certified Municipal Official designation from the Texas Municipal League for education and training received over the last year!

Councilperson Bill Bentley proudly represents the citizens of the City’s District 3. Originally from Oregon, his family moved to Waco when he was 10 and then on to Galveston when he was 15. Bentley graduated from Ball High School in Galveston before attending San Jacinto College and serving in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He then worked at Rohm and Haas, Texas, Inc. (now Dow Chemical Co.) in Deer Park for 31 years before retiring.

A former leader for both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Bentley has continued to support our youth as a volunteer in LPISD and on the Board of Trustees from 1992-1999, including a year as Board President. He has served on the governing bodies of two Episcopal churches and is currently a member at St. Paul’s Anglican Church of Houston. Awarded “Volunteer of the Year” in 1993 by his employer for the same, Councilperson Bentley still volunteers at St. Luke Hospital’s cardiovascular waiting area, and he has also been a volunteer driver for the Houston Ground Angels, transporting cancer patients coming to M. D. Anderson.

Bentley has two sons, two grandsons, and a granddaughter, and is a resident of Fairmont Park West, where he is active in their homeowners association. He enjoys reading and staying informed on local, state, and national issues.
