Assistant Chief J. Scott Pullig was born in Pasadena, Texas. He attended Deer Park High School and attended the University of Houston after graduation. He later obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Mountain State University in Organizational Leadership and his Master of Science degree from Sam Houston State University in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management.
He is married to Cassie and has two sons, Brandon and Dylan. Both sons are currently serving as officers in the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps respectively.
Scott attended the Baytown Police Academy and began his law enforcement career with the La Porte Police Department in June of 1998. After spending four years on patrol, he was assigned to the Street Crimes Division where he spent the next six years as a narcotics detective. In January 2009, he rejoined the patrol ranks until 2011 when he was reassigned to the Criminal Investigations Division where he served until his promotion to Sergeant in June 2019. He then served tours in patrol, Support Services, and Internal Affairs. He was promoted to Lieutenant in April of 2022 and served as the evening shift commander before his appointment to Assistant Chief in May of 2023. He is a Master Peace Officer and serves as the department's polygraph examiner.
In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities such as golf, hunting, and fishing.
